What Causes Popping Sounds After A Myringoplasty?

I had right myringoplasty 4 weeks ago. all the wick is out but the doctor then put a gel/cream inside my ear. Ever since my ear is constantly popping with big air sounds and i cant even hear properly or when i try talk it just echos. I then have to hold my nose and breath in the way to make it feel better, but no cream is coming out my ear. I am still in pain. The popping is happening everytime i chew food, drink or just having a chat. It is really frustrating and i need to know if this is normal or should i no longer be having problems like this? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is quite usual that you hear a popping sound whenever you eat or drink after myringoplasty. The ear may feel plugged and your hearing may not have clarity. But these symptoms improve as the packing in your ear dissolves or after it is removed. If there seems to be a progressive loss of hearing over the weeks you should immediately consult your ENT. Never lift anything heavy or perform vigorous activity and keep your head elevated during sleep always.take care not to get water into your ear.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
