What Causes Pimples And Itching Sensation On Scalp?

Hi there. I m 28 and for the last 10 months my scalp has been driving me insane. I get on the crown and the base of my scalp little pimples that itch. I wake up scratching at night when its bad ... I m currently on iron and zinc supplements and also o Doxycycline prescribed by my dermatologist but it doesn t seem to be working (doxy 2 months .. iron and zinc 3 weeks). I use the right shampoos and use dry shampoo to eliminate oil ... I m at my wits end! :(

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Itchy lesions on scalp are unlikely to be pimples.
Pimples are formed by blockage of sweat glands in head & neck, shoulder and back.
Pimples when infected become painful and may be filled with pus.
However, pimples are rarely itchy.
Thus, the itchy lesions need to be examined to determine its nature and thus plan its treatment.
Head lice need to be ruled out since it causes intense itching on scalp and it can also lead to development of lymph node enlargement.
Doxycyclin is an antibiotic which is effective against pimples.
Persistance of itchy lesions despite taking doxycyclin shows that the lesions are not due to pimples.
I suggest you to consult a dermatologist for clinical assessment of the lesions for diagnosis and thus management.
