What Causes Petit Mal Seizures?

I experienced a TIA when working about year ago. At the time, I was dehydrated and drinking coffee and energy drinks. In addition, I typically skipped lunch because I was too busy/stressed out with my work load. During the multitude of tests, no seizure D/O was found and my heart, blood pressure and sense of humor all tested as A-OK and the ER sent me home. The only medication the ER suggested was Aspirin 325 mg qd. My PCP agreed with this. I then tried a new, hopefully less stressful job, but ended up having a petit mal seizure one month after I started ( I am not Dx w/ a seizure D/O), while at work. Again, I was sent to an ER, but this time, was admitted as an inpatient for several days. Again, lots of tests were conducted. Again, nothing was found and my heart and brain all checked out. My PCP maintained me on Aspirin 325 mg qd as well as the Kepra 500 mg, bid, as a precaution. I am concerned that my organizational skills, sequencing, memory, ability to successfully multi-task and learn new information have been compromised. I am unsure if this is d/t the TIA/seizure or the medication regimen that I am on. Please advise, if possible. Thanks. --AB

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If I assigned to treat you, I will suggest some lab work like EEG, CGRP levels, ESR, ECG, BP, MRI is useful in telling long term effects as these will hint to TIA, seizure or other disorder. I will suggest you lifestyle modifications. Hydration is very important, 8-10 glasses. Eat fruits daily. Stop caffeine, alcohol, smoking, these in the long term are dangerous and may be because of your present illness.

Eat fruits, salads, lots of water, vegetables. There is one option for you before anyone like me prescribes anti-anxiety/or depressants drugs. Join physical activity, esp., sukshm yoga is very good, breathing exercise [art of living breath and meditation workshop]. It will reverse your problems at this level without side effects. I will suggest INR/PTI D dimers are checked continuously to prevent ant attack [if these are altered, you need medication, anti-thrombotic.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
