What Causes Persistent Taste Of Chemical In Mouth?

HI, I have this awful taste of moth balls in my mouth. I taste it when I swallow and when I chew food. I just went to the dentist, no issues. I am on some medications, but I have been on them for months now. I just noticed this awful taste a few days ago...what could be causing it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent taste of chemical in mouth which could be due to involvement of glossopharyngeal nerve and olfactory nerve. It could be due to nasal and sinus disease, upper respiratory infection, burning mouth syndrome and due to acid reflux. You need not to worry about it. You should visit oral physician once and get a complete hemogram and blood test done. Doctor may order CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis and may prescribe anti inflammatory drugs. Chew on sugar free candies. Take supplements rich in iron. Avoid hot and spicy food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
