What Causes Persistent Swelling On The Foot Post A Tiny Puncture Wound?
I had a puncture wound to 2nd metatarsal area of left foot almost 6 weeks ago. It is still tender to pressure, and the foot is still puffier than the right. No fever, redness, drainage. I am diabetic. The object that punctured my foot was a pierced earring, so only about 1/2 inch long. Should I be concerned about a bone injury/infection?
It possible that the pain does not indicate any serious issues such as infection with the foot but with a history of diabetes, infection always needs to be ruled out even if there is no redness, fever or discharge.
It would be best to see your doctor for an assessment of the foot to make sure that there is no underlying infection present.
Antibiotics may be needed and in some cases, infected tissue needs to be removed to allow the area to heal fully.
I hope this helps
