What Causes Persistent Swelling In The Leg Despite Taking Medication?
I have a swelling/bulge just below my knee. I have leg swelling too. Did not injure my leg but the area is where an external fixator was applied 20+ years ago. My doctor said skin infection and went on cipro then bitrim as nothing was getting better. After 5 days on bitrim the leg is still not better but it does not hurt to walk.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I have read your query, one of the main causes of swelling in the legs is being overweight, thyroid dysfunction, edema, lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency, infections, kidney or liver disease or arthritis. Visit ER, get examined & have all investigations done. In the meantime restrict salt intake, keep your feet elevated either on a stool or pillow. Keep yourself hydrated & take walks. Avoid addictions if any, restrict intake of white flour/sugar & dairy products. Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
