What Causes Persistent Stomach Pain

My stomach has been hurting for the past several years. The pain comes and goes. Sometime the pain is mild and then at times, it can be so discomforting that I have to lye down. I can push on my stomach and feel tenderness. If I lye down, I prefer to lye down on my stomach because if I lye down on my back, the pain can be annoying. I can t even put my hand on my stomach during that time because it seems to aggravate it. It feels like I am hungry but I am not. Almost a nawing feeling. Food doesn t trigger it. It just happens on its own and also eating doesn t make it better. The pain can last for hours. Again, it comes and goes but has bee a steady part of my life. Any ideas what this is?
