What Causes Persistent Severe Abdominal Pain?

I ve had severe abdominal pain for almost three months. Initially had an elevated white count did a month of antibiotics. That releaved some of the pain. Colonoscopy was negative. I cannot have any pressure (I can t wear pants) on my abdomen at all. Cannot do much physical activity due to pain. Also, I have no appendix, gallbladder, uterus or ovaries. I need help any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Abdominal pain may be due to several causes involving abdominal organs. Infection of the bowel and bladder may cause abdominal pain which can be corrected with antibiotics. Involvement of the kidneys may also cause abdominal pain such as renal stones, etc. Gastritis and duodenitis also cause abdominal pain which can be detected by Oesophago duodenoscopy.

The gastritis pain may radiates towards the lower abdomen and also to the back. Depends on the involvement of the stomach and duodenum, hunger and pain differs. Chronic pain may also leads to ulcer formation. It should be corrected with proton pump inhibitors or Histamine 2 receptor blockers along with antacids to decrease or preventing acid secretion to decrease acid induced damage.

Consult a gastroenterologist to rule out any gastric and intestinal involvement. Ultrasound abdomen, CT scan and MRI of the abdomen, endoscopy are the available investigations to confirm the diagnosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
