What Causes Persistent Redness In The Eyes Despite Taking Medication?

My three year old son has allergies and is prescribed Zyrtec, he has not been taking it regularly and after a trip to the country he came home with redness and swelling around his eyes and forehead. We gave him the Zyrtec and are not sure if it s helping. He had yellowish snot this morning and the swelling is getting a bit worse. Should we wait and see if the Zyrtec works or take him to the er now?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Zyrtec is an anti-allergic medication.
Redness and swelling around eyes is probably due to allergy.
If the redness and swelling do not respond to anti-allergic drops, the symptoms may be due to some other reason.

I suggest you consult your ophthalmologist for clinical assessment and exact diagnosis of the condition and thus treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
