What Causes Persistent Productive Cough Despite Taking Treatment?

Coughing up dark yellow, almost green solid phlegm that looks like a worm. Takes a LOT of work to cough it up. I m exhausted from coughing. I ve been to the dr on and off for more than 2 months, with only temporary relief. Recent chest xray showed clear lungs. What the heck is going on???

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent productive cough despite taking treatment which is impairing your immunity and yes dry cough and productive cough is mainly because of lower respiratory tract infection and it could be due to granular pharyngitis. Need not to worry about it. Visit pulmonologist once and get it examined.These symptoms normally takes 3 days for to go. If cough is exaggerating go for chest X-ray, blood and sputum test. If it is bacterial infection start with proper course of antibiotics. Till then give crocin 4 hourly. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Take proper rest without any discomfort. Take water after every few mins.
