What Causes Persistent Pain In Tooth Extraction Site Despite Taking Medications?

Hi, I had a my second premolar extracted this morning and it came out with much difficulty. I've got stitches in my mouth and it's hurting. I've been prescribed enzoflam with antibiotics twice a day (morning and night). But if the pain remains, upto how many doses of enzoflam can I take?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

There can be many reason for pain after tooth extraction. Well yhe most important thing on which pain after extraction depends is that how much trauma occurred during tooth extraction .

As you mention that you have got stitches it means there is good amount of trauma during extraction which is the reason for pain.

Enzoflam is a powerful painkiller , normally person can take it twice a day . But as pain is severe in your case , you can take it thrice a day after meal.

Apply ice pack externally several times a day , do not suck or swish forcefully at least for 2-3 days to prevent clot dislodgement and do not eat hot and hard things.

If condition do not get better in 2-3 days then again consult dentist for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray and do physical examination to rule out the remaining root tip inside .

He/she will rinse your extraction site with betadine regularly for few days , extract root tip if it is there and may extend the course of antibiotics.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if a traumatic extraction is done there is more inflammation and injury to the soft tissues in that area leading to more pain..

In that case you need a strong painkiller which can relieve moderate to severe pain while Enzoflam (Diclofennac +Paracetamol) can be taken in case of mild to moderate pain..

A third dose of Enzoflam can be taken in case of pain but if you have severe pain Tramadol or Ketorol DT should be taken as it will relieve you pain in a better way..

Hope this information helps..
