What Causes Persistent Pain At The Back Of Thigh?

Hello. I am a 25 year old girl. I am experiencing some pain in the back of my left thigh. I was sick and in bed for some days, and after that I ve spent a lot more time in bed studying for my exams. I ve had the pain before, but never as persistent as now and never this bad. In general I sit down a lot (play computer games, and sitting a lot at school in classes as well) but I got a dog two months ago and have had daily walks besides this last week and a half. The pain is faint when I stretch my left foot, but if I curl the knee up towards my belly I can feel it very well. When I hold the knee still in the curled up position, there is no pain. The pain is not severe, more discomfort and sometimes interfer with my activities. I use a nicotine product called snus , you put this bag of tobacco under your lip. I use birth control pills, but I ve have been taking them irregulary lately due to forgetting due to stress and a busy schedule. I try to make systems where I remember them, but I often end up forgetting one now and then :( Just wondering about the possible causes for this issue, if it will go away once I become active again or if it could be caused by something where I need to go to my doctor for help. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear ,
This is Dr. S. Tomar from healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I ll be your medical adviser for this question.
After any general illness ,such pains are quite common and should resolve on it's own . The major causes of such pains in your age are:
1. dehydration
2. muscle spasms
3. electrolyte imbalance
4. vitamin deficiency
I don't think it's something serious .
Make yourself well hydrated . Include a multi vitamin daily . Perform mild stretch of your calfs and hamstrings multiple times a day. Try to be more physically active and have a nutritious diet .
If any leg pain is accompanied with leg swelling , skin color change then contact your health care providers straight away.

This is my initial response and discussion is open until you have any query or need further clarification.
I wish you good health .
sincerely,
Dr. Shardendu Tomar
