What Causes Persistent Pain Around The Bottom Of Rib Cage?

Dear MD, My 11-year-old daughter complains of pain for 3 day. The pain is around the bottom of the left rib cage. it is tender, and sore kind of pain, but persistent, intensity 3-4 out of 10, worsen when pressing on the area, and when she moves from lying position to sitting up. She does not have any trauma, no fever, no nausea or vomiting, no diarrhea, clear lung sound. Thank you, Kathy

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent pain around the bottom of rib cage . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like indigestion , acid reflux , kidney stones , pancreatitis , spleen problem or angina pectoris . Hernia can cause severe acid reflux .I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order ultrasound , kidney function test along with physical examination to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe digestive enzymes , omeprazole , ornidazole or laxative . Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist for kidney problem . Doctor may also recommend surgery for hernia . For now eat light , non spicy , take light walk after every meal and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
