What Causes Persistent Nausea In An Elderly Person?

My 92 year old Mother has constant nausea. (Going on 3 weeks) First started when she started taking a codeine med for her arthritic knees. It constipated her so she stopped taking them. ..but the nausea never stopped. This has gone on for way too long. She can t eat..or eats VERY little; she has to force herself to eat. A couple doctor visits later and they still can t figure why she feels this way.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Codeine is associated with nausea as a possible side effect.

This is a possible side effect of this family of medications so it is definitely possible that the symptom is related to this medication

If the codeine cannot be switched then you may want to use an anti emetic such as dramamine or pepto bismol

I hope this helps
