What Causes Persistent Nasal Congestion, Sore Throat And Cough?

I've been sick since new years eve. I went to the doctor around Jan 4th or so and they diagnosed me with bronchitis but it was an urgent care place and they didn't give me anything to treat it really just strong cough medicine. It then got worse and developed into a throat and fever thing. I didn't want to go back in because I was nervous about having to pay and not get treated with any medicine to help. Every time I start to feel better it gets worse. My symptons now are nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, and ear ache. It's been this way for a while. Should I go see a doc again?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, and ear ache indicates that you are suffering from severe upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms are all due to cold..

The infection will however resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..

As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
- Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
-Do steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
- Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
