What Causes Persistent Fever And Diarrhea?

Illness began with fever 100 to 102 first 24 hours, no headache, pain, stomach ache or muscle aches. Then diarrhea began and up and down fever continued, no belly tenderness. Fourth day went to Dr. and gave stool sample. No results yet. Fifth day, diarrhea less explosive and out of control, temperature between 98 and 99.5. Exposure to many people and store bought prepared food. What could it be? Dr. gave no opinion.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
That sounds like enteritis that could be of bacterial, viral or parasitic origin.Only the result of the stool exam may reveal cause. You may also need to a stool cuture to identify the germ in cause if diarrhea of bacterial origin.Just wait for the stool exams.
In the meantime, you may try the following:
-Take oral rehydration salt to replenish ions/fluid loss
-Zinc tablets to help in intestinal repair
-If diarrhea too frequent, you add an anti-diarrheal like imodium
-You may also add paracetamol if fever persist.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
