What Causes Persistent Fever Along With Cough And Abdominal Pain In A Child?

My wife and I are desperate. My 5 year old son has been experiencing: unusual fever with no other symptoms, a persistent cough, stomach aches. Nobody seems to know what is going on. He has been to the ER so many times we lost count. All the doctors says is he has an upper respiratory infection and to provide him with antibiotics. We have gone to an allergist which he has been diagnosed with many allergies from furry animals, to certain types of grasses. We still have no definitive answer to what is causing all this we just want some type of diagnosis we are desperate.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of persistent fever along with cough and abdominal pain which seems to be due to viral infection of body due to compromised immunity of your body and susceptibility of getting infected. Sometimes initially the infection is viral but with times secondary bacterial infection occur , which cause further complication. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician without any delay. Doctor may prescribe anti viral( acyclovir), anti bacterial penicillin, along with anti inflammatory medications. Doctor may order throat swab test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis. You should take proper rest and muscle relaxants. For now take steam twice a day to relieve the congestion. You should take proper rest. Do tepid sponging to lower down fever.
