What Causes Persistent Earache With Nasal Drip Post Methamphetamine Injection?

I have been injecting methamphetamine everyday for two months now. About a month ago I noticed my ear was plugged and it was hard to hear. My ears hurt from time to time as well. This symptom switches back and forth between both ears. I also have a sore throat and the drainage is mucousy with blood in it. What is going on with my throat and ears?

Hello,

Post methamphetamine abuse you are experiencing sore throat with blood in mucosa of your throat. You also have plugged ears that hurt from time to time. Methamphetamine abuse often leads to caries and poor oral hygiene. It predispose individuals to cranio-facial infections and fluid collections. Purulent collections in the maxillary sinus may lead to abscess formation indicative of craniofacial manifestations for methamphetamine abuse.

The drug stimulates α-adrenergic receptors within the salivary gland vasculature, causing vasoconstriction and reduction of salivary flow. Repetitive abuse leads to hyposalivation and retention of cariogenic organisms. Methamphetamine abuse may cause dental caries, bruxism, trismus, nasal septal necrosis and perforation. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, get all the routine blood and imaging tests done to detect the specific pathology causing you distress.

Get treated at the earliest. In the meantime, get connected to a detox center, so that you can wean off drug abuse gradually and successfully. Persistent ear ache and hearing less is often due to wax. It can be cleaned at the clinic of an ENT. Do not try to do it yourself, you may spoil your ear. To get rid of pain you can take acetaminophen or Naproxen, one SOS when required. Gargle your throat with salt water 2-3 times a day for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
