What Causes Persistent, Dull Abdominal Pain?

I have had stomach pain for about 2 weeks. I thought it was my gastritis acting up so I cut way back on coffee, to half a cup a day, quit eating chocolate and no alcohol. It wakes me up in the middle of the night and also makes my back hurt. It doesn t seem to be localized to the right side, dull ache, hurts when I eat and when my stomache is empty. I am thin, and reasonably fit and I eat really healthy, no junk food or fast foods. Any ideas?

Hello,

It is good you are trying to have a healthier diet and quitting alcohol. On the other hand you still can have gastritis or even peptic ulcer disease that is causing your symptoms because sometimes few more conservative measures are need and medications as well.

It would be helpful if you try to eat frequent small amount of food (eat 5-6 small meals instead of 2-3 big meals) and avoid fried food or junk food. Try to avoid acid food like the ones with a lot of vitamin C or very spicy as well.
You will also need to see your doctor and have an endoscopy of the stomach to rule out peptic ulcer disease which needs to be treated with antibiotics.
Meanwhile you can also take omeprazole to help with the symptoms but even if you improve with it you still need to see your doctor and have the endoscopy to rule out peptic ulcer.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
