What Causes Persistent Dry Cough Despite Taking Antibiotics?

I have had a cough for about eight weeks now. It's just a dry cough, and there's no other cold symptoms. After three weeks, I went to the doctor and was prescribed antibiotics, but two weeks later, I still have the cough. I then tried allergie medicine, but that is not working. The cough is dry and I don't really feel an itch. I often get into fits of coughing for a bit and then stop. I cough way more when I am up and walking around , and when I sit down for a bit, I don't cough at all. What is this ?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent dry cough despite taking antibiotics which seems to due to lung infection leading to upper respiratory tract infection / bronchitis. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get pulmonary function tests and X-ray chest done. You should take cough expectorants. You should do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Take antibiotic Levofloxacin along with Anti-inflammatory medication such as Levocetrizine.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
