What Causes Persistent Dizziness While Waking Up With Severe Headache?
My son is 13 and I ve found out, when he first gets out of bed he gets dizzy and passes out for a few seconds. I ve ask him how long this has been going on, he told me about 2 weeks. He said, when he stretches this happens too and gets headaches afterwards. Son did get two concussions in 3rd & 5th grades. All test were clear. Any ideas what could be causing this?
He may be suffering from vasovagal syncope because of the stretching that could be activating his vagus nerve abruptly causing a sudden drop in blood pressure.
I would recommend that your son get up and before even sitting up he should do some movements while lying in bed with his arms and legs for about 15-30 seconds.
Then, he should sit up to the side of the bed and again move his legs about and do circular motions with the arms forward and backward for another 30 seconds.
Then, to a standing position carefully with the instruction that if he were to have the slightest hint of dizziness, feeling distant or funny that he should sit or lie back in the bed immediately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
