What Causes Persistent Discomfort In Lower Abdomen?

My 14 year old son has been dealing with intestinal issues for the last 3 years. He has pain in his lower abdomen, sometimes extreme & most times just discomfort. He has been tested for many things, they just cannot find any answers. very frustrated. He gets headaches regularly and is in the bathroom A LOT! No neauseasness, no vomiting just lower instestinal discomfort. We have tried Gluten free & dairy free nothing changed. Any ideas?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent discomfort in lower abdomen. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like diverticulitis , constipation , intestinal obstruction , kidney stones , kidney infection or hernia . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order stool test , ultrasound along with endoscopy and physically examine the pattern of pain . Doctor may prescribe omeprazole , anti inflammatory , laxative and anti biotics . Doctor may also recommend surgery in some cases like diverticulitis. Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist for kidney proble , who may order kidney function test along with urine test and treatment accordingly . For now eat light and non spicy , apply warm compresses to lower abdomen and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
