What Causes Persistent Coughing?

i had an endoscopy this past tuesday and since then i have had extremely severe coughing occuring only at night. is this normal? what can i do about it? i have tried cough medicine, cough drops, and a breathing technique i read about, and the cough is still so bad that it is not only preventing me from sleeping but actually keeping my husband awake as well.also, one of the findings was severe ulcerative esophagitis III. does this mean i have an ulcer? thank u so very much for your assistance.

Hi Dear, Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query facts in context to your health concerns

Based on the facts of your query,You seem to suffer from-
Chronic Esophagitis Gr III with Vagus sensitisation, causing Reflex persistent Cough.
Ulcerations are not there, but the gravity of esophagitis is gr 3 and is causing vagal hypersenstitivity, which in turn give rise to reflex cough which is persitent till the esophagitis is corrected.

After the endoscopic procedure, the irritative impulses do increase by the tissue handling in the area, which gives rise to vagal reflex cough.

As the esophagus and bronchus are having common embryological origin, the vagal supply from C fibres is same to trachea and esophagus.
Normaxin RT would reduce its sensitivity and GERD esophagitis in 2-6 weeks time and is the optional treatment suggested for you.

Hope this would help you to plan treatment from your doctor there.
Keep Me updated if you need any more help 24x7.

Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Good Day !!
