What Causes Persistent Cough At Nights Along With Migraine Headaches?

I went backpacking in Italy, Jordan, and Israel. I developed a cough in the end of November. It is always more prevalent at night. It is still hanging on. But only a couple times a day and wakes me up once a night. I also gained about ten to fifteen pounds for no apparent reason since then. I have been back in the US since mid December. And now I ve had a migraine for a week. Wondering if these could be related or if i should just wait out the cough?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough at nights along with migraine headaches . Well the biggest reason we cough more at night is simple: gravity .When we lie down, the gastroesophageal reflex kicks in because mucus automatically begins to pool . The best way to counteract this gravitational pull is elevation of head with pillow. Other reasons are asthma , upper respiratory track infection or post nasal drip . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for acid reflux who may prescribe proton pump inhibitor or H2 blockers . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory track infection or neurologist for migraine .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
