What Causes Persistent Cough And Acid Reflux?

I have had a persistent, dry, non-productive cough for 4 months. I have tried allergy medicines (Zyrtec, Xyzal, Benadryl), and I have tried Prilosec in case it was acid-reflux related. But nothing has worked. Cough drops will stop the coughing for 30 -60 minutes, but then it comes back. My family doctor is stumped. Should i try to go to a pulmonologist? Thank you, Bob

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Persistent, dry, non-productive cough for 4 months now is showing that something is causing an allergy coughing to you. That might be acid reflux and allergy to exposure to any new environment changes.

So, I advise to run respiratory function test to rule out obstructive problems of your lungs together with chest X-ray. Yes, pulmonologist is the next specialist to consult. Furthermore, upper endoscopy to rule out acid reflux.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
