What Causes Persistent Choking Sensation While Eating Food?

Hi lately I have the weirdest choking experience when I eat cold proteins, like turkey or chicken. I take small bites and chew well and even wait between bites but inevitably food gets stuck in my throats and causes a very uncomfortable choking feel. Sometimes I will have to throw up to get the feeling to go away. It makes me panic when I feel the airway cut off. What is happening?!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are mentioning to have choking problems while eating cold proteins. A new experience started recently. This makes me think over possible:

- allergy problems: allergy doctor should be consulted further; if everything is ok; then consult with ENT specialist

- esophageal narrowing to rule out by upper endoscopy and further consultation with gastroenterologist

- if nothing organic will be found, then, psychological/neurological issues to rule out by psychiatrists and/or neurologist respectively.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
