What Causes Persistent Body Chills And Sore Throat In An Elderly Person?
Hi. My mother is 81 years old and has been experiencing chronic chills and mild sore throat for the past 5 weeks with a bad cold during that period. I am concerned as she got over the cold, but continues to have the chills and mild sore throat. She does not have a fever (not once). My mom is in Arizona and I am in Washington DC. She does not have a physician in AZ and can only go to the urgent care which doesn t do the trick as far as deeper inquiry into reason for chills. I keep telling her to fly back here, but she really doesn t like to fly (to say the least) and says that we should just wait to see if she gets better in the next few weeks. If not, then she agreed she would fly here in April. What do you think? Sorry, I know that is not much to go on.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent body chills and sore throat which is due to severe viral/ upper respiratory tract infection due to poor and compromised immunity of body. It could be due to underlying systemic diseases as well. need not to worry. I would suggest you to take nasal sprays and do warm saline gargles. You should take throat lozenges and avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin in combination with antiallergic medication Sinarest. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get swab test, routine blood test and paranasal sinus x-ray done and start treatment after proper prescription. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
