What Causes Persistent Bloating In Abdomen Despite Taking Medication?

My wife is suffering from symptoms of food poisoning since last two weeks. She was admitted in hospital for the same for 3 days, but still after discharge she is suffering from same complaint again two days after discharge. USG of abdomen was done in the hospital and it was found normal for any swelling in the stomach. Please suggest if any other test is required to diagnose the problem.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Severe food poisoning can cause bloating and stomach pain for at least 10 days or more. I would advise you need to get her stool microscopy and culture done, so that if any antibiotic that needs to changed or added can be given. Also, please make sure she stays well hydrated and keep drinking ORS to balance her electrolytes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
