What Causes Persistent UTI Symptoms Despite Taking Medication?
I have been treated for a UTI twice, a month after I finish the medicine, I am still frequently urinating and feeling a slight burning sensation when I wipe after. I tested positive for leukocytes but negative for Nitrates using an AZO UTI kit at home. Why hasn t the medicine cleared my symptoms and could it be something else?
Urinary nitrates (from food additives & dietary protein) are generally considered normal. Bacteria that cause a urinary tract infection (UTI) make an enzyme that changes urinary nitrates to nitrites. Nitrites in urine show a UTI is present. Leukocyte esterase (WBC esterase). Leukocyte esterase shows leukocytes (white blood cells [WBCs]) in the urine. Most urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by bacteria that live in the digestive system. urethra (urethritis) bladder (cystitis) ureters (ureteritis) – the ureters are tubes that run from the bladder to the kidneys. kidneys (pyelonephritis).
