What Causes Peripheral Neuropathy In A Woman Undergoing Menopause?

for 8 years, since menopause, my feet are always uncomfortable - a combination of cold (must wear fuzzy sock in order to sleep) and tingling in toes when lying down. It is difficult finding a comfortable position to stay asleep. I take 2 ibuprofen at night and it helps take the edge off. I have been diagnosed with neuropathy and given a prescription for gabapentin. I guess it helps a little but really just feels like a bandaid rather than getting to the core issue, whatever that is. I have been an athlete all my life, including a distance runner and now I couldn t run down my driveway as my balance and coordination is so bad. I can walk okay but I m aware of feeling easily offbalance. I have been a Tai Chi practitioner for over 15 years but haven t done any in years as I can t keep my balance. Last week I got on a bike and immediately fell over - couldnt stay balanced. Totally embarrassing. I feel like my body is alien to me - that it is falling apart. I have always eaten healthy, don t drink alcohol or coffee or do drugs, weigh 115 lbs and am 5/7 I ve had blood work done and nothing shows abnormal. I am not a doctor-goer (my brother and sister are both MDs). But these symptoms are getting so chronic that I just want answers so I have seen two GP s but so far doctors I have seen haven t put their fingers on what s going on. I am just so tired of feeling like I am a shadow of my former healthy self.

Hello,

It may be several causes.

For further assessment you may require blood sugar level,. MRI neck and back, nerve conduction studies, multivitamin levels after physician consultation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition.

You may require tablet Pregabalin and multivitamin after consultation.

Till then take balanced diet

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.
