What Causes Peeling, Red Skin With White Dots Over The Sunburnt Area On Legs

I was out in the sun whatching my boys sports games and I did get sunburned-even after applying suntan lotion many times. My face is fine, right arm was red (no blisters) left arm ok. Just my legs, from the top of my knees to a quarter up to the bottom of thighs, again no blisters. I ve spent no time in the sun after (this is day 6) and applying aloe vera several times a day. My right thigh is peeling and I am getting this wet substance coming under it. What is that? My left thigh is not peeling(yet) but looks like little white dots over the burned area, which is also the same as the unpeeled right thigh. No pain, no itching. Again, right arm, no longer red, just looks normal. What is this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Peeling of the skin commonly occurs after sunburn. In case of severe sunburn the skin may form small blisters/boils to cool that area & may burst causing uncomfortable fluid on the surface of the skin.

Sometimes swelling may also occur resulting in fatigue, headache, chills or fever.

You should get well hydrated, take juice, soups & water in plenty. You can apply soframycin cream or burnol ointment on the affected area for relief. Take showers & good care of your skin.

You can also apply calamine lotion. Avoid going outdoors for a couple of days.

To get rid of inflammation you can take analgesic or acetaminophen, one sos when required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
