ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
The mucus which formed in nasal cavity due to simple inflammation is always thin and watery. when the inflammation extended more than 48 hours the non pathogenic organism in the nasal passage will overgrow in the mucus causing thick and viscid mucus.
Normally the mucus will pass behind the nose into throat. When you blow nasal cavity it comes out as you described. Its normal. You apply a nasal decongestant like normal saline it will dissolve and clear from nostril. Do not blow or sniff nose while suffering rhinitis because of possible injury to eardrum. take care.
