What Causes Paranoia In Older People?

my mother is 83 and is drinking at least two if not three bottles of wine a day. she has memory loss and also has a tendency to be delusional and paranoid. She is adamant that she is fine and can get very hostile. is it common for someone like this to get paranoid?

I am sorry to hear about your mother. In elderly patients it is very common for them to have paranoid ideation. They have lots of anxiety related to their own health and fears of losing control over their lives. In your mothers case alcohol in such high quantities are compounding her ability to think properly. I would strongly recommend that she stop alcohol but she must do it in a controlled environment like a hospital. If she stops suddenly she could have withdrawals which could be very dangerous.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
