Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has had loose stools for the past week and a half. In addition, the color of her stool has gotten more and more pale every day. Today, it looks like hummus. Her appetite is poor as well. No fever or other complaints. Is it a virus, or should I be worried?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Paler looking loose stools now looking like hummus and poor appetite but no other complaints indicate that there might be a liver problem like hepatitis or obstructive jaundice.
I would advise her following in such a situation: • Get the blood tests done like CBC, liver and kidney functions. • Stool tests particularly to see for stercobilinogen. • Clinical evaluation by a physician and correlate with the lab reports. • Ultrasonography of the abdomen.
All these things will give a proper clinical diagnosis and a plan for management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
