What Causes Painfully Swollen Tonsils Along With White Spots On The Uvula?

Recently I went to the doctor for a soar throat and the doctor said I had strep. My doctor gave me the generic for cephdenir and it helped with the soar throat. I still have white dots on my tonsils. They have shrunk in quantity but they are still there. I also have two lumps that hurt on each side of my neck. They hurt if you touch them. The white dots are going to the top of my uvela. I have been checking my tonsils every day and they are still huge. I don t know f I have tonsilitis, mouth cancer or what. I am really concerned. Could you help me?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painfully swollen tonsils along with white spots on the uvula which is due to sore throat and associated lymph node enlargement which is due to infection in throat due to streptococcus bacteria. Need not to worry. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take steam inhalation and avoid excessive sharp, spicy and oily food substances. Drink plenty of fluids. I would suggest you to take preventive measures such as do warm saline gargles on daily basis. Take combination of antibiotic such as Amoxicillin and anti- inflammatory drugs. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for aspiration cytology of the lymph node can be done to know the cause of lymph node enlargement. Once proper diagnosis has been made start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

I'm suspecting Epstein Barr virus infection. But for diagnosis I would suggest you to go for a throat swab to an ENT specialist. It must subside in couple of weeks but if it doesn't you should see an ENT doctor.
