What Causes Painful Urination Followed By Back Pain And Sediment In Urine?

Hi! I am a 32 y.o. male suffering from painful urination followed by some back pain and I am also seeing sediment in my urine as well. Presented myself to local E.D. and was first diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. Was given Ciprofloaxcin @ 500 mg 2x per day for 7 days. I told to drink plenty of fluids as well. Three nights later presented back to local E.D. with almost same symptoms as before but noticed more sediment in urine. Doctor performed CBC, CMP and a CT scan of abdominal area without contrast. Nothing found on CT scan and all blood work was normal too. My question, could this in fact be just a major urinary tract infection? My wife suffers from chronic UTI and I have had symptoms on and off for at least two months. I am planning on following up with a urologist as well. Thanks!

Hi Thanks for writing. You have given a very good summary of your case.

As per the description of your symptoms it was most likely an episode of UTI. If the CT does not show any stones or pus collection most likely it is not a complicated type of UTI. Sometimes patients do not respond to regular antibiotics and they require higher antibiotics. In this case i would like to see the urine culture report and antibiotics as per the suggestion of the culture report.
I would be happy to answer any other queries from your side.
