What Causes Painful Swelling In Ring And Middle Finger?
A few days ago my ring finger started aching and swelling. It has gotten bigger and hurts more everyday. Now it has a black and blue tint to it. I did not jam it. The same thing happened to the middle finger on my other hand 7-8 years ago. From what I remember it got very swollen and hurt badly, but finally after a few weeks the swelling went down and the finger quit hurting. It did leave the finger kind of twisted deformed like. What could this be? More importantly, what can I do to relieve the pain? Thanks in advance for any help.
from what you are describing, it looks like you have some form of arthritis. since you mention that it caused deformity of the finger and that the color changed to black and blue, it is possible that it's something not as simple says age related arthritis. I would suggest that you make an appointment with a rheumatologist . meanwhile for pain, you can take acetaminophen 325 mg tablet , take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours as needed for pain relief. do not take more than 12 tablets in 24 hours. if this does not help, and provided you do not have any history of stomach ulcers or kidney problems, you can take Ibuprfen 800 mg three times daily with food for pain relief.
