What Causes Painful Swelling Behind Knees And Visible Veins While Treating Plantar Fasciitis?

For 2 months I have been treated for plantar fasciitis. I have had heat laser therapy, custom orthotics, cortisone shots and staying off of them with very little relief. My pain is anytime of day and nite. No more in the morning after sleeping than any other time. Last nite and today I am experiencing strong pains and swelling behind my knees. Also, the veins in my feet and front of my legs near my ankles seem to be protruding. I also feel like I am retaining fluids in my hands.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you are suffering from varicose veins secondary to prolong standing or hanging if the legs. I would recommend you to get a surgical review as these need to be treated surgically.

For swelling that might be secondary to cortisone injection you got for planter fascitis. I would recommend you to elevate your legs and arms while sleeping with pillows underneath. and avoid prolong standing or hanging of the legs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
