What Causes Painful Stiffness In The Hips, Knees And Legs?

i have been having pain andstiffness in my hips, sometimes knees and legs also. mainly when i go from a sitting position to standing and walking. it has started 3 days ago and i noticed it is getting worse. at first i thought it was the weather because it was getting stormy and i do have arthritis but i am starting to wonder. I have to fly out of the area for a few days for a funeral and i am not sure what i should do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
Yes.. arthritis from any cause can be instigated with changed weather. This time the attack seems to be more aggressive.. may be thee is added inflammation to joint pain.
Ideally one should take rest & medication to manage the problem... but if it's a must you can try following-
- hot or ice pack to the part will reduce joint stiffness & muscle spasms & blood supply to the joint.& make the movements less painful.
- Over the counter NSAID drug like Ibuprofen 400 mg can be taken twice a day after food. It will manage the stiffness/ inflammation.
- Consult your treating doctor before leaving.. for his opinion regarding the travel & he may add steroids short course ,, as per need.
* After coming back.. please get investigated for typing of arthritis ( Rheumatic, Rheumatoid, Gout or osteo arthritis & start with more specific treatment & physiotherapy for better management & comfortable life,
Please consult a Rheumatologist.
Thanks
