What Causes Painful Spasms In Head?

For several months now I have experienced what a call a spasm on the right top side of my head. Some days I have several a day and then I might go a few days without any. Both my parents had strokes and I m wondering if this could be a TIA? Or is I should have it checked out? The spasm on lasts for a few seconds but sometimes it is painful. Thanks, Ann
