What Causes Painful Lump On Thigh After An Injury?

Hello, my 85 year old mother just tripped over a cord and fell on our hardwood floor, with most of her weight falling on her left hip. She is now standing and walking fine and seems to have normal ROM with her left leg. The only problem I can see is that she has a painful large lump forming on outer left thigh, below the hip. Should I take her to the ER for xrays?

Hi
This is probably a hematoma--a pool of blood under the skin, and that will be absorbed over time.

But since the blow was hard enough to cause the hematoma, it would be a good idea for her to get x-rays of her hip and femur on that side
