What Causes Painful Lump And Bruise On Leg?

I got hit with a pipe in the outside of lower leg about 2 inches above ankle. It had hard knot and bruised 30 seconds after it happened. 2 days later the blood has gone down into my ankle and swollen. The lump is still on outside of leg! Hurts to walk on it and can t stand to have pressure on it!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

With your history, it seems that you have had a hematoma (collection of blood in the subcutaneous tissue) which gravitated down into your foot. The lump could be due to a muscle tear, and might go gradually. The swelling on the ankle and foot could also be due to cellulitis (inflammation of the tissues) as a result of the trauma.

If I were your doctor, I would advise you for a foot elevation on a pillow whenever you are not mobile, give maximum rest to the traumatized leg, prescribe an anti inflammatory drug along with a proton pump inhibitor, a broad spectrum antibiotic and a probiotic. This should relieve you of your symptoms. Otherwise, I would refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon for an opinion and further management.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
