Hi,

Pain radiating in nature is considered as a Radiculopathy. It aggravates while coughing due to weakness of the spinal muscles. Doing deep breathing exercises, core stability exercise, spinal muscle strengthening exercises, hip muscle strengthening exercises, static Quadriceps, static hamstring and straight leg raise should help reduce pain and also the swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
