What Causes Pain Under The Right Shoulder?

My husband has had bad pain under his right shoulder blade for about a month. On Thanksgiving his sister ( massage therapist) worked on him and said she found a knot but like no other she has worked on. It has gotten worse and seems to be moving about his back from left to right or all the way across. He went to Dr. and saw the PA who said it was muscles but took and exray to make sure his lungs were clear (no results yet). I m not comfortable with her diagnosis, he has been on muscle relaxers and Ibupropin and it is getting worse not better. I will call office tomorrow and asked to be seen by one of the doctors that are in (our is on vacation). Do you think I ma wrong to do so? What do yo thinnk

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I really appreciate your concern for your husband. You are thinking right, it could be a lipoma or sebaceous cyst (according to your description). In my opinion you should visit your doctor for physical examination or else upload me a photograph of the knot. It's not related to lungs so lungs will definitely be clear but his doctor didn't diagnose him accurately. I think you are doing right by calling a doctor and booking an appointment for physical examination.

Hope this answers your question, please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will be happy to help you.

Best wishes,
Dr. B R Hudda
