What Causes Pain On The Right Side Of The Mouth?

I have bad pain on the entire right side of my mouth which has gotten progressively worse over the past couple of weeks. Finally went to a dentist today, with no luck of locating the problem tooth/teeth. He used cold air, and tapped on all the teeth on that side, but they all seem to hurt the same. Also did x-rays of a few likely problem teeth with very large fillings. Was prescribed 32 qty Amoxicillin (500 mg), and told to take twice upon start up, then 1 every 8 hrs to kill any infection. Was advised to return in a week to see if the pain can be isolated to a particular tooth. Advised to take Ibuprofen for pain, as needed, but it doesn t seem to be helping, or doing anything at all for pain. Right now the pain is unbearable, with the only thing seeming to help is continually swishing around cold water in my mouth, and changing it frequently as it warms. For this reason, I am unable to sleep for several nights. What can I do to soothe the pain besides constant cold water rinses every couple minutes?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Pain on right side of mouth that is relieved by keeping cold water in mouth can be due to any infected tooth only as where there is inflammation due to infection then cold water can help in reducing pain by absorbing heat..
So my suggestion is to get the teeth filled that needs filling and if there is any tooth that has exposed nerves then you can get Root canal treatment of the tooth done..
For now along with amoxicillin you can also take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain..
Do cool compresses over the cheek and do warm saline gargles..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
