What Causes Pain In Upper Shin, Foot And Ankle After Laminectomy Surgery?

My fiance had a laminectomy surgery in February of 2014 and is now having severe pain in his upper right shin, foot and ankle. It is a pain that has persisted for more than 6 weeks with nothing working to lessen the pain. Is it normal to have residual pain more than a year after a laminectomy or is this something to be concerned about?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There should not be excruciating pain over shin, foot and ankle at a period of above 1 year after laminectomy surgery. Possible issue with nerve compression at lower spinal cord level from which the root originates is likely possibility. The MRI spine is best measure to evaluate for the possible cause and further management protocols in accordance to that.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
