What Causes Pain In Throat?

Today I started having a pain in my throat. It felt as if my throat was very raw, and an acidic feeling continued to rub against it. I have acid reflux, but that s only if I binge on soda for a day. However, I have not had any highly acidic foods or drinks. I started thinking it was just a cold, but my mucus started to be a yellow/greenish with red spots in it. Almost looked like blood. I then became worried and looked in the back of my throat using a flashlight and a mirror, and I noticed that the back of my throat was covered in orange, veiny blotches. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,

Throat pain could be due to various reasons such as, infection of the tonsil or pharynx, ulcer over tonsil or pharyngeal wall, nasal block or silent acid reflux, etc.

A complete examination of the throat and the nose can help us in identifying the actual cause. The treatment is advocated after identifying the cause of the problem.

You require thorough examination to find out the cause for the symptoms. Meanwhile you can try the following:

1. Drink plenty of warm water
2. Steam inhalation, followed by saline nasal spray, if you are having nasal block.
3. OTC pain relievers such as Ibuprofen for the pain relief.
4. Avoid Alcohol, smoking, Fried Foods, Spicy Foods,Carbonated Beverages.
Thank you.
