What Causes Pain In The Vein After Receiving A D5W Shot?

I received an injection of D5W (with a radioactive isotope) during a nuclear cardiac test. As the tech was injecting the solution into a vein in the back of my hand, I developed acute pain in my basilic vein. I asked that he stop or slow down the 10ml infusion but he did not. A day later I developed severe pain in my basilic vein in the same placee where the pain occurred with the injection. I still have the pain after a week. I will see my cardiologist on Tuesday for the results of the test. Should I be worried about a blood clot?
