What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen And Rib Cage?

Hi, I am suffering from pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen and higher under the ribs. I have no fever, but elevated heart rate between 93 and 128 bpm resting. When changing position in bed it aggravates the area. The pain also radiates under the rib cage to the left side. Nausea is sometimes an issue, but zofran heps. I am on a daily dose of omeprazol 20 mg, as well as dilauded po 8mg po /3hr prn, flexiril 10mg prn every 8 hrs, fentanyl 125mcg patch every 72 hrs. I suffer from flatulence quite often and gasex doesn t begin to help. Any ideas?

Hi,

By your history and description, the possibility of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) related symptoms is more likely. Only drugs are not effective in GERD. You need to follow these lifestyle modifications for better symptomatic relief.

1. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm.
2. Avoid large meals, instead, take frequent small meals.
3. Avoid oily and spicy food.
4. Keep 2-3 pillows under the head in bed. Go walking after meals.
5. Quit smoking and alcohol if you have these habits.
6. Take a combination of omeprazole and levosulpiride (prokinetic) for better relief.

Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
