What Causes Pain In The Sole Of The Feet While Walking?

I have something on the bottom of my foot that just appeared a couple of months ago. I am a hiker and every couple of weeks it gets big enough that it causes me pain when I walk. I ve taken toe nail clippers to it a couple of times and it doesn t hurt to cut it down and that relieves the pain but it eventually comes back. What do you suggest?
